2/06/24 Hold Them

As a father, one of the most wonderful gifts you’ve been given is the privilege of holding your children before God as they are finding their way. The wealth of your prayerful investment in their lives is beyond comprehension. Only eternity will tell of the magnitude of the results.

There’s an unseen war raging to ensure that your children do not fulfill the plan God has for them. It’s a spiritual war that can only be won in a spiritual manner.  You’re the one chosen by God to help win that war until your children are whole enough to fight it for themselves. Even then, you are to stand side by side with your children - no matter how old they are - as they overcome challenge after challenge throughout their lives.

Ultimately, God’s desire is that every person to whom He’s given breath would be able to stand before Him having lived the life He intended for them. Even though we all become responsible for the life we’ve been given, you have the privilege of fighting on behalf of your children when they’re too immature or too unknowing to fight the war themselves. Until they have what’s needed to engage in the battle, your job is to win the wars for them. If you haven’t already entered into the battle for them, begin now. It’s never too late!

2/05/24 Helping Hands to One Another

“How many beats are left in your heart? How many moments are there before you see Me face to face with the unchangeable product of your life in your hands? How many crowns do you have to lay at the feet of Jesus? Let’s talk! What are you focused on today that has little eternal effect? What concerns your time that will mean nothing on that day? Why are you placing top priority on it if I haven’t asked you to do so? I consider that foolish!”

Hebrews 10:32-36 NIV

32) Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering.

33) Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated.

34) You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.

35) So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

36) You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

The Word says that only a fool says in his heart that there is no God. How foolish is it, then, for those of us who are convinced that God does exist - knowing that He has sent His Son so that we can spend eternity with Him if we accept the sacrifice given and having an awareness that we will stand face to face with Him with our life’s work in our hands - to waste our time on things that have no eternal value? What is important enough to get our eyes off Jesus and His desires for our lives?

2/05/24 You’re Dangerous

Do you have any idea how important it is for your wife to know you are praying for her? Do you have any idea how much peace your children can have when they know their father is standing in the gap for them as they go about their days? Even if they don’t seem to be aware of your efforts in this arena, God notices and responds.

Holding those you love before the Lord is big stuff to Him. It’s also big stuff for your family because it makes an amazing difference in the spiritual realm where wars are won on their behalf. A father or husband on his knees is dangerous to the enemy who wants to rob and destroy. In his eyes, you’re an unbeatable foe. He has no weapon that can win over you as you submit yourself and your family to God.

As you observe your family in action, ask the Lord how you should pray for each one. Sit quietly and wait for Him to reveal their needs to you. Make it your business to intervene on their behalf. In doing so, you will help turn the tide of any warfare that comes their way. You become dangerous in the spiritual realm. You become a mighty warrior, and God sees you as His mighty man. That’s a really good thing!

2/03/24 Birth Pangs

Sometimes the responsibility of holding our offices of husband and father becomes pretty overwhelming, especially if we’re attempting to hold them in a way that pleases the Lord. Standing in the gap for another until Christ is fully formed in that person - which is very much a part of our duties as stewards - is hard work. Paul described the process as if being in the pains of child birth.

My own experiences in laboring for my wife and family have sometimes seemed more than I can bear. It’s not that they had gone astray or were in such dire need of prayer outwardly; I just knew that they needed spiritual intervention, possibly to thwart off intended warfare by the enemy. In those times, it’s vitally important to remain in the gap for them, no matter what the cost might be.

Being a husband and father is no light duty. These offices are highly regarded by the Lord. They carry major responsibilities that are designed to benefit others rather than ourselves. It is a continual death to our own needs for the best interests of those He holds dear. It is sometimes painful, but most often incredibly rewarding as we see those we love prospering in Christ.

As you wait on God for your family, be ready to fight the fight for them at every opportunity. The labor pains may be intense at times, but the joy you are giving the Lord through your involvement in their lives is worth every effort put forth.
