6/04/22 Abba Father

“You delight My heart. I sometimes simply observe you while you go about My business, guarding you, protecting you, and providing a way for you when there is no way. It pleases Me to have you with Me for eternity.

"When your portion of time on the earth is over, I will welcome you into heaven with all of My heart. Until then, fight the good fight. I am with you. I cherish you and I am pleased to be called your ‘Abba’.”

Genesis 1:27-28a AMP

27) So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them.

28a) And God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it [using all its vast resources in the service of God and man]…

Jeremiah 29:11-13 NIV

11) “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

12) Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

13) You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

There is no God like our God. There are no people more privileged than those who have embraced the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ, and have the wonder of open access to a loving Father.

I remember seeing a cover of a prominent magazine, which pictured some dignitaries sitting in front of the desk of then President John Kennedy. Under the desk, little John-John, who was about two at the time, was playing at his father’s feet. To the dignitaries, the President was “Mr. President.”  To John-John, he was “Daddy.”

Thank You, ABBA,

6/04/22 Rejecting an Offer

A poverty stricken man had to travel to his job, which was located in a distant city. Because he was so poor and it was the only job he could find, he had to make the trip there and back each day in an old, barely running rust bucket of a car. His livelihood depended on that car. It was the only means for him to get there, even though it often broke down, causing him often to almost lose his employment.

So every morning long before anyone else was even up, the man packed all that he would need for the trip, and took off down the road in a cloud of smoke that would obscure him from sight the further he would go. Late at night, he would return exhausted, only to have to do the needed repairs on the car so that he could make the trip the next day.

One day, as the man pulled over on the side of the road to make some repairs so that he could continue on his journey, a kindly man in tattered clothes walked up to him, seemingly from nowhere. "I've been watchin' ya make this trip every day. Been lookin' at  ya from my porch over there," he said, pointing to a run-down shack just off the highway behind some trees. "I feel sorry for ya with this no-luck car that ya got, so I'd like to help ya," he continued.  "In that barn over there," he turned and pointed to a barn that looked even worse than the house, "I got me this limo. It's yours if ya want it cuz I don't use it no more. I'll even drive ya wherever ya gotta go if ya want me to. Got nothin' better to do."

"Get away from me, old man," the traveler spat with  impatience. "I have enough trouble without someone like you making promises that you can't keep." With that, he returned to the well-worn muffler to reattach  it.

The next day from his front porch, the kindly man sat and watched as the beat up jalopy hobbled its way down the road again. Shaking his head in sorrow for the embittered  traveler, he headed  toward the  barn to polish the new limo he had inherited, wondering how he might use it to help someone that day.

How often do we, as husbands and fathers, respond in the same way to God’s offer to be in charge of every situation we face?

6/03/22 Valuable

“I choose to bless you. I choose to invest in you because I know who you are becoming. You are valuable, not for what you do, but valuable because My value has been placed upon you. Walk with Me through the rest of your life. We will overcome everything that comes to hinder you and I will teach you what you need to learn. You will make it. That is My promise. I am with you.”

Hebrews 13:5b AMP

…for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]

When I think of how many times I place my value on what I do - or even more so, on what I have done - I forget God’s perspective and His promises. What seems real to me during those times is, in actuality, absolute foolishness. I praise God that He never changes. His promises are always for us. His devotion is always toward us. Thank You, Lord.

6/03/22 Who Do They See?

Smith Wigglesworth, an evangelist from the early 1900’s, would enter a train compartment and people would have to leave it because the presence of God in him convicted them of their sins. He didn’t preach or say anything.

We don’t even begin to understand that. We spend the largest portion of our lives providing for our feathered nests; and finally, if we have any time left over, it goes to God. Then we wonder why we are powerless to affect - for eternity - the people that God brings across our path or help our families find real safety during deep challenges.

Think about it. How many people have you been in contact with since you were saved? How many have seen Jesus, even a little bit, because of that contact? I’m not talking about today’s version of Jesus – the scurrying around to put out social fires lit by others rather than helping them to see Jesus. I’m talking about the Jesus Who came to show us His Father’s love, the One Who came to die for them. That Jesus is supposed to ooze out through every one of our pores, because we have given God full possession of our lives.

6/02/22 The Patience of God

“Are you cherishing those I bring into your life? Do you realize that I love them very much, no matter what condition they are in? I send them to you so that they can get a closer look as to what Jesus looks like. Do they see Him in you? Do they have more of a desire to serve Him because they have been with you, and you have shown the wonders of His person?

"That is why you have been called into My kingdom. You have not been called to be with Me so that you can be well-fed and satisfied. You have been called so that My plan can be furthered. Begin to see your life and your purpose for living through My eyes. You will be amazed at how patient I have been with you.”

Psalm 106:12-15a AMP

12) Then [Israel] believed His words [trusting in, relying on them]; they sang His praise.

13) But they hastily forgot His works; they did not [earnestly] wait for His plans [to develop] regarding them.

14) But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness and tempted and tried to restrain God [with their insistent desires] in the desert.

15a) And He gave them their request, but sent leanness into their souls…

Matt. 7:21-23 NIV

21) “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

22) Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’

23) Then, I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’”

Matthew 16:22-23 NIV

22) Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”

23) Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Out of my sight, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”

A self-serving gospel is dead religion masked in spirituality. It is another gospel, not the gospel preached by Jesus. So many Christians today think that they are living according to the will of the Lord, when He has long ago bypassed them and is using those with open hearts who long to do His will.

The Lord has a remnant in training, a people who surrender every aspect of their being to His Lordship every moment of every day. They are learning to live entirely in Christ, rather than attempting to find the easiest road to heaven and consuming the things that the Lord has provided for them upon themselves. He is raising up a holy people, calling them out from the cold religious functions so prevalent today.

Do whatever it takes, Lord,

Jim Corbett
