7/12/24 Discernment Needed

“Guard your heart. Guard the hearts of your children. Pray for those with whom you come in contact. Pray for discernment within My body. Many who call themselves Mine through Jesus have little wisdom to discern good from evil. They are often taken in by the enemy and are helpless to break free from their bondages.

"Others are wolves dressed as My sheep. Be careful of them. They are already in your midst to hinder the flow of My Holy Spirit. They are actually praying against your prayers. Make sure your heart is in order. Make sure that you have spent enough time in My presence to wake up from your slumber. You need to become wise.”

Isaiah 55:8-9 NIV

8) “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.

9) “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

Hosea 13:6 NIV

“When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.”

Joshua 7:13 AMP

Up, sanctify (set apart for a holy purpose) the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow; for thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: There are accursed things in the midst of you, O Israel. You can not stand before your enemies until you take away from among you the things devoted [to destruction].

When the church of Jesus Christ decides to follow the ways of the world, we become fair game for the schemes of the enemy. He delights in allowing us to attend our church services, sing our songs, and listen to each others’ prophecies. What he will come against with all of his might is intimacy with God. He loves it as long as we play church games and hates it when we really get serious and decide to dig in with our Lord, seeking holiness.

Whenever we, as children of God, choose activities over intimacy, promises over repentance, and comfort over sacrifice, we can count on cold gatherings and fruitless works. We can count on sterile spiritual relationships, which are helpless against the ploys of the enemy. We will walk blindly into his traps and joyfully remain in deep slumber, thinking that our Lord is pleased and that everything is in order.

Wake me up, Lord,

7/12/24 Be a Servant Leader

There is no greater example of the character of Christ being displayed than one who serves another. In the family dynamic, nothing speaks louder than example, especially examples of service. Even the hardest of hearts notices someone walking the walk of Christ-like behavior instead of simply talking the talk.

Bottom line, Father God is looking for a marriage that is the example of Christ and His church, and children who overcome the world just as Jesus did. As a father, there is no better way to tell them of His ways than by showing them how He lived and what He stood for. Your walk of servanthood leads them to His life.

It might be wise to define servanthood. A servant isn’t someone who displays whimsical attitudes and selfish, uncaring actions. A servant holds a heart position of loving someone more than himself and his own desires. It means living for the best interests of those around him. It means having the inner strength to deny self for the good of another. It is overcoming the world in the strength of Jesus by walking in the kingdom of heaven on this earth with Christ as your only guide. A true servant is a powerful leader under the complete control of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was the best servant leader Who ever lived. Will you allow Him to live His life through you?

7/11/24 Run Out of Answers

“I am only found at the very end of your rope. So many times, you ask Me to assist you in what you are doing. Many times, I oblige. My heart, however, is that you follow the example Jesus showed you. He purposely expressed that He did nothing of Himself to show you the way of living His perfect life. Having no answers allows Him to live His life of answers through you. You will never know the freedom of your salvation and all that it means until you surrender all of who you are to all that He is. Run out of answers. You will find that He is the Answer with every answer.”

John 5:19-20 NIV

19) Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.

20) For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does.”

John 6:57 AMP

Just as the living Father sent Me and I live by (through, because of) the Father, even so whoever continues to feed on Me [whoever takes Me for his food and is nourished by Me] shall [in his turn] live through and because of Me.

We attempt to be better Christians. God is asking us to die to all our efforts to be better and understand that we can do nothing to make us better. He wants us to surrender fully to the One Who is perfect and allow Him to live His life through us. That, however, limits our participation in the things of God. We don’t like to be left out. It makes us feel unimportant and insignificant. It wounds our pride. We are so self-important that we sometimes even love to play the Holy Spirit, as we go around directing and fixing everything.

Forgive us, Lord,

7/11/24 Journaling

I know that journaling may seem like a topic unrelated to raising up a child or restoring a marriage; but in reality, they work hand in hand because journaling only comes from quietly waiting on God. That kind of quiet – far from the din of everything we do as men - is so very important in receiving what is needed to overcome the challenges of marriage and child raising. Journaling those moments and reviewing what the Lord gives you can make an incredible difference over time.

In my research, I have found very few men who journal their quiet time with the Lord. Most say they simply don’t have the time, or that they don’t spend enough time with Him to require journaling. What an incredible indictment! That attitude is a perfect spawning ground for mediocre marriages and wayward children.

Think of this; sitting quietly with the Lord and allowing Him to minister to your spirit, give you insights into your challenges, and present you with answers and direction for your concerns. Then think about how important it would be for you to jot down all that He gives you. Now think about how important those notes and encouragements would be if you could refer to them weeks, months, or even years later.  With journaling, you have unparalleled wealth at your fingertips whenever you need it. Journaling also allows you to remember His faithfulness in times past whenever you encounter a new challenge. It’s like treasure hidden away for a later date. Got a pen?

7/10/24 Let Jesus Be Seen through You

“I have given you a Savior. His Name is Jesus. You are to make Him Lord over every area of your life. Prepare your heart now as a bride would prepare hers. Wait for Him with increasing anticipation as she would wait if she knew that the time was drawing near. Be pure in your motives always. Be holy as He is holy. Become an enthusiastic study of His life. Show others who He is by who you are becoming. Be passionate about your preparation and accurate in your representation. Honor Him with your every breath. Glorify Him with your every action. Never tire in your devotion. He is your soon coming King.”

John 1:1-5 NIV

1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2) He was with God in the beginning.

3) Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

4) In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

5) The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

John 1:10-14 NIV

10) He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.

11) He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.

12) Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God -

13) children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14) The Word became flesh and lived for a while among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

As followers of Jesus the Christ, we are to celebrate His birth, study and walk in His life, remember His death, fully believe in His resurrection, and prepare as a bride for His return. We are to be consumed with only Him. He is Lord.

Be glorified, my Lord,

Jim Corbett
