3/24/20 Accept Your Offices

As a new president sets up his cabinet and group of advisors, there are two elements of every appointment. There is a request for service, and then an acceptance of that office by the nominee. One cannot function properly without the other.

If the nominee declines the appointment, he or she would obviously not serve in that capacity. Should the nominee inwardly accept the appointment half-heartedly or with no intent of fulfilling that office to the full extent, however, he or she would do a great disservice to many, and would more than likely eventually fail to carry out the duties of that office.

It’s the same with you as a husband and father. You have been given two offices that are very important to God. Have you ever stopped to consider the responsibility that goes with them? Have you ever really accepted those offices and determined to function in them with everything you are and all that you have for His glory? If you haven’t, you will eventually fail in some way. Your marriage will be average at best, and your children will grow up without a vibrant commitment to God.

Today’s the day to fully accept your offices. Today’s the day to commit your way to God. Determine in your heart that you will only do what is right for your family by nurturing them in God’s ways for His glory. Make today the day you truly accept your position of servant and guide to them, leading them to the deep things of God. You have been called by God to serve. Do you really accept that calling?

3/24/20 Wholly Holy

“You need to desire to be holy. I want you to press in. It is not out of reach. For too many years, those who do not know My heart and those who do not know My Word have lied to each other and to you. They have proclaimed that holiness is unreachable. The cross has given you new life, My kind of life. Jesus has gone before you to show you the life that I would give you after His work was completed. Do you think that I would waste His life and settle for mediocre results for such a great price?

Stop listening to lies. Dig in. Go for it with Me. I will show you what I have provided for you in My Word. I will implement holiness in you if you fully surrender to Jesus. Together We will honor the wonderful work that has been accomplished for you from the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan, through the cross, past the grave, and beyond His resurrection. His great work provides all that is needed for you to become all that I have planned for you.”

Romans 12:1 NIV

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God…

1 Cor. 1:2 NIV

To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified to Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ - their Lord and ours.

Hebrews 10:14 NIV

…because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

1 Peter 1:15-16 NIV

15) But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;

16) for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.

So many times we forget what has been provided for us at the cross of Jesus Christ. Often we really don’t care. The things of this life so consume us that the things of God often take second place or are completely ignored.

Father God has planned a wonderful life for those who have given their lives to Jesus and choose to serve Him fully. He has wondrous things in store for us, if we would only seek Him and find His desires for our lives.

3/23/20 Request Backup

When a police officer senses he needs help, he makes a call to his unit to request backup. He’s calling for assistance in a situation where he understands he can’t do it alone.

As a husband and father, have you ever called upon your family and requested backup? Have you ever humbled yourself to the point of allowing them to know you need help from them? Overseeing a family is a gargantuan task if your goal is that they live in an atmosphere where Jesus is Lord. It’s an atmosphere no amount of money or talent can provide. It requires you, as the head, to continually require help from God and your family.

Your wife and children need to understand that you will never succeed if you attempt to achieve that atmosphere by yourself. They need to understand that their part is to pray for you so you can be the man God desires you to be. They need to learn that only with the help of God will you be able to honor Him and serve them properly.

Maybe it’s time for you to have a family meeting so you can humble yourself before your family and ask them to pray for you. Maybe it’s time for them to know you need them to pray that you seek God in all you do in fulfilling your offices of husband and father, and also pray that He will be your source of strength and wisdom. In asking for backup to help you seek God, your family also learns how to ask for backup. It’s a great start to open communication and a big step in family unity - not to mention that it pleases and honors God.

3/23/20 Be Ready to Bless

“Bless someone today! Make an act of kindness to someone My priority for you today. Be led from your heart but wait for Me to tell you whom you are to bless. You may be surprised to whom I call you to show My love. Be ready!”

Rom. 12:9-21 NIV

9) Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

10) Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

11) Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.

12) Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

13) Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

14) Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

15) Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

16) Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

17) Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.

18) If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

19) Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.

20) On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”

21) Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

To do what the Father’s Heart is suggesting means that I must take my eyes off myself and even off the tasks that are my priority today. I am to seek Him as to the person I am supposed to bless. It should be the priority of my day. Then again, it should be the priority of every day if I truly follow Jesus.

If I forget to intentionally bless someone, if my blessing is an inconvenience or costs me nothing, or if I refuse to bless the one that the Lord chooses for me, it will reveal pretty much about my priorities and my obedience level, won’t it? If the idea of blessing someone else is new to me, it sure reveals my heart and the depth of my walk with the Lord.

Show me who and how, Lord,
